On behalf of the Center Grove Board of School Trustees, Administration, Faculty, and Support Staff, we would like to welcome everyone back to school!
Where did the year go? It seems like just yesterday I was starting my first day on the job; but here we are, one year later, and again the Center Grove Community School Corporation continues to attain many great honors.
Probably one of our most significant academic initiatives this past year was originated by our kindergarten teachers. They not only aligned the kindergarten curriculum to the common core standards and created standards-based report cards, but they also integrated iPads into their instruction. The iPad project was so powerful and impressive that some of our kindergarten teachers and technology staff were asked to present at the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Conference in San Diego, California. Research tells us the importance of early education, and this initiative was a great start as we continue looking for ways to help our students attain academic success.
Once again our students enjoyed much success, both in and out of the classroom. We cheered, as Emma Schoettmer and other alumni swam in the Olympic Swimming Trials, Austin Mudd ran in the 1500 meter World Junior Championships, and we gave a standing ovation to our very own valedictorian and National Merit Scholar, Janit Pandya, as he completed his graduation speech. These are just a few examples of the many successes our students have obtained.
The accomplishments of our students and staff are at a world-class level, as demonstrated by their participation in the Super Bowl XLVI Drum line--which performed the National Anthem with Kelly Clarkson as well as the Half-time Show with Madonna--to over 113 million viewers. Thanks to the efforts of Mr. Josh Torres, Super Bowl XLVI will be even more special to the Center Grove Community School Corporation.
We are grateful for all of the hard work and energy given by the Strategic Planning Committee members this past year. As we continue to improve and move forward, the strategic plan will be used to guide our direction in what is in the best interest of our students.
Finally, the hard work our teachers and other staff members provide every day to support our students will have a deep and lifelong influence on their lives. I am grateful to have this opportunity to serve our schools and community. Each year our district’s outstanding teachers, support staff, and administrators make a difference in the lives of every student who enters our schools. Our teachers have been working all summer to learn and develop powerful and engaging curriculum tools which will propel our children into the future with the skills they need to be successful.
Best wishes on a wonderful school year!
Sincerely,
Rich Arkanoff
Superintendent
