    BLESSINGS IN A BACKPACK

All Center Grove students are provided lunch every day with the option to eat breakfast at school as well. But there are students who don't have much food at home. Blessings in a Backpack provides students with food to take home on Fridays, so they have something to eat over the weekend. Students are referred to the program by a school counselor.

Through the support of Meijer stores, Blessings in a Backpack is able to send one child home with food every week during the school year for just $100 per child. The program is available in all six Center Grove elementary schools and both middle schools and feeds approximately 500 students each week.

Children who qualify for free lunch are eligible to participate in the program. The food they receive includes breakfast and lunch items that they could prepare themselves if they have to.

Center Grove's Blessings program is run by Chris Hickey, who is a parent of two Center Grove graduates and a resident of White River Township. She coordinates volunteers from CGHS athletic teams and clubs to fill bags each week. If your group is interested in volunteering to help, please contact Chris.
