FAQ: ACADEMICS / SCHOOL INFO

  • Will students that are attending virtual classes come in for school pictures? Will they be in the yearbook?

  • My son has Autism and we typically help him walk the halls before the first day of school to find his locker and classrooms. He usually goes to the cafeteria before school, then to locker and Homeroom. Is this what he will be expected to do on the first day? He will have no idea where to go and will be panicky. Will teachers tell students where to go in the morning, and give them extra time between classes to find their next class and practice their locker combination?

  • Where can I find more information about CG Virtual?

  • Will you still require a clear water bottle or can I send a better insulated water bottle instead to keep it cold with ice?

  • [My student] takes attendance very seriously and has never missed a day of school. How will his perfect attendance be affected should he have to quarantine due to a student who sits near him testing positive for COVID-19?

  • My son is doing virtual HS courses and he's taking an IOA class. Who do we direct virtual school questions to related to making sure the payment/registration was done correctly?

  • Will IDs be provided on the first day of school?

  • I did not enroll my child in the Virtual Option, but have changed my mind. Is it too late?

  • How do I enroll my student in the Virtual Option if we have not registered to attend CG yet?

  • What would a typical day look like for my student? What time would her school start and end? I would like to know the structure.

  • Will the Virtual Option have some social aspects built in? For example, will there be zoom meetings with all students? Specifically, I would like to know if the children will know who is in their class and have some opportunities to communicate with those classmates.

  • If the CG Traditional Option moves to eLearning as required by the state, will the eLearning be the same as the virtual option offered for families who choose that for the first semester?

  • For the Virtual option, if enrollment is not enough to fill a class, would the Virtual option not be offered?

  • If we select virtual option for 1 semester now, do we have an a option to extend it to 2nd semester also if needed or else we have to choose right now only for both semesters.

  • If we choose virtual school for 1 child, do siblings also have to do virtual or may they do in person?

  • Is Computer Science I going to be available as a Virtual option?

  • My son is wanting to change a class?  How does he do that?

  • Will students who initially choose the Traditional CG option be able to move into Virtual CG mid-semester? Is the Traditional CG election unchangeable until 2nd semester or can we opt into Virtual is infection rates continue to climb?

  • Is the 8th Grade trip to Washington, DC still happening in November?

  • I understand that if we choose the Virtual option we must commit to an entire semester. What about the reverse? If our child starts out attending in person can we switch to virtual at any time?

  • How will virtual students take the required standardized tests?

  • If we would choose the virtual option, what is the plan for addressing needs of high ability and high performing students? How will differentiation occur?

  • No mention of changes to band or choir. These seem like high risk scenarios, more so with choir where large outbreaks have been linked to church choirs. Are these classes still going to take place (specifically at MSC), and would they be available in the Virtual option?

  • Will virtual students have access to Reflex? If so, can this be set to go at their pace and continue to challenge them after they have become a “math ninja” for their grade?

  • My daughter is in Early College and will be a freshman. If she decided to do virtual. Will that have any change for her Early College classes?

  • Will CG virtual students need to buy the same school supplies as traditional students?

  • What steps or process is the Center Grove School System and Canvas working on to ensure seniors can graduate virtually, and with full classes and credits so that they can go to college next year?

  • In section - "Will AP/honors classes or advanced learning be affected by the virtual schooling option?" - There's no mention of Science Honors. Does this mean it's not available?

  • For virtual school, you have indicated Kindergarten will follow the full-day elementary school hours. That's almost 7 hours - more than what grades 1-5 and 6-12 are required to do. Is that correct?

  • Will there be a blended option available/could I do that instead of all eLearning or all Traditional?

  • My child was invited to join the 3rd grade "extended learning" program; is that covered in the document under the "High Ability/Honors" section? If so, what does the "enrichment activities in language arts and math" entail? Is it the same experience she'd get with the 3rd grade EL teacher? Finally, since my child's signed up for the Extended Learning program would the teacher that she is assigned to on Canvas be the 3rd grade EL teacher, or someone else?

  • Regarding the Virtual option, What is a "well-being check-in", and what does it entail? Is it a Zoom meeting, or does someone come to my house, or do we go to the school? Similarly, what's meant by "regular academic check-ins"?

  • Will all registration be online for this year? If so, how will this affect obtaining parking permits for high school students, turning forms in, getting student ID's, paying for yearbooks, etc.

  • Will students who choose the virtual option have their textbooks, workbooks, and devices accessible at home?

  • What will the curriculum be for students in the CG Virtual option?

  • Will CG Virtual School or CG Traditional during eLearning have required times during certain parts of the day?

  • How will freshman orientation work?

  • If a student is quarantined/in isolation/ill, how will he/she receive classwork? Will the students be allowed to do eLearning?

  • If my family doesn't have reliable or any internet access, can I still choose the virtual option?

  • Will Honey Grove provide child care services before/after school this school year?

  • Will schools allow visitors/guests/volunteers?

  • Will schools be allowed to hold events/assemblies?

FAQ: HEALTH & WELLNESS

  • With the students and teachers being new to each other, how will teachers be able to tell when students are acting “off” to know if they may be presenting symptoms of illness? Will teachers be as cautious with our children as we would be?

  • How are students with glasses supposed to keep masks on and not touch their masks and faces when their glasses are continually fogged by them?

  • My children have severe asthma. Their pulmonologist said they need to have a mask with a valve as the cotton cloth ones trigger attacks. What accommodations can be made for my children?

  • Are there any plans for ways for students (and teachers) to get a break from masks (e.g. appropriately spaced/ventilated spaces) or ability to get outside during the day for a break (MSC and HS students)?

  • How will social distancing be possible in all classrooms?

  • Will any decision to shift from in-school to blended or full eLearning be based on direction from the State? Can our Superintendent notify all families in one school (not just through the contact tracing protocol) and put that building on eLearning?

  • Will students be required to wear masks at recess? Will they be allowed to play on the playground equipment?

  • Will students be distanced 6' while at lunch since they cannot wear masks while eating?

  • Public info from the State seems too macro-level. We can see testing and infection data at a county level only. Does the school system have access to a finer granularity of information? Community level? Neighborhood level? We should be demanding it.

  • What is an acceptable face covering? Are neck gaiters are acceptable?

  • Can teachers take temperatures as their students enter the class room and or in the afternoon?

  • If there is a child that is presenting symptoms in the clinic, how will they be isolated from those in the clinic for other reasons?

  • What is the COVID testing policy? How will students and staff have access to tests?

  • If we go on vacation during first semester (5 days unexcused) do we have to quarantine for 2 weeks when we return before being allowed back at school?

  • Does a parent have a opt-out option for our children wearing a mask?

  • How will parents be notified if a student/staff member tests positive for COVID-19?

  • If a teacher or student tests positive, will all of the students in all of their classes need to then stay home and quarantine for 14 days?

  • If a teacher or student tests positive for COVID-19 are they required to quarantine for 2-3 weeks?

  • Will face coverings be required?

  • How will students and staff have access to COVID-19 testing?

  • If my student is enrolled in CG Virtual School, do they still need to be vaccinated?

  • My student has received in-school therapy with Adult and Child for the past several years. If we choose the virtual option, will she still be able to work with the Community Health Network’s school-based program for mental health treatment in a virtual fashion?

FAQ: TRANSPORTATION

  • If a child chooses the virtual option for the first semester, then chooses the traditional option for the second semester, will they be able to ride the bus, or must the parents transport them?

  • If we start the year driving students to school, do we lose our assigned seats on the bus?

FAQ: FOOD SERVICE

  • What is being done to allow for social distancing while students eat in the cafeteria? This part of the day seems to be when kids are the least protected and have the greatest chance of infecting others.

  • In the cafeteria how will social distancing take place while eating with masks off? Traditionally the children are sitting in very close proximity and across from each other as well as beside them.

FAQ: ECA/ATHLETICS

  • Will my student be able to participate in Debtones if we choose the Virtual option?

  • Can student-athletes choose the virtual option and still play sports?

  • If I choose the Virtual option, will be my student be able to participate in high school soccer or Robotics teams?

  • The new email addresses athletics specificially at HS, "participate in athletics at the high school level", but can you please clarify if MS students can participate in athletics with the virtual option?

  • Is Center Grove currently planning to have fall sports? If so, will there be fans?
