CGHS Trojans,
On behalf of the faculty and staff of Center Grove High School, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our students and their families. We are proud to be part of a community filled with rich traditions and that places a high value on exceptional educational experiences for all students. I am confident that you will find that the opportunities available to our students while attending CGHS will prepare them well for their future, whatever that may hold.
Thanks to the fiscal responsibility of our district, we are extremely fortunate to have a wide variety of academic and elective courses available to our students. While many communities are cutting course offerings due to the financial strain on public schools, our students continue to have wonderful opportunities available.
I would encourage you to involve yourself in athletics, fine and performing arts or any of the many clubs or service organizations available at school. Research is clear that those students who immerse themselves in the extracurricular offerings of the school are more likely to be successful in their classes and in their lives after high school. The leadership opportunities and teamwork skills learned in those activities will benefit you for the rest of your life.
We have made it a point to design a master schedule that allows students the opportunity to seek additional help and assistance from licensed teachers during the school day with the development of the STaR period on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. This 30 minute block of time, built into the school day, is an excellent way for you to stay caught up on your schoolwork, get additional assistance, or extend your learning beyond the regular classroom curriculum. Make it a point to take advantage of this opportunity.
Parents, I would like to challenge you to stay active in your student’s school life, even in the face of their attempts to distance themselves from you as they grow and mature into responsible young adults. Utilize a Canvas Observer Account and the Family Access portion of Skyward to stay up with your student’s homework assignments and academic progress. Work with us to ensure that your student is completing all of their coursework in every class. It truly takes a partnership between the school and the home to ensure success for each student.
As always, Remember to Respect Yourself, Respect Others, Be Responsible for Your Own Actions, and Remember... It’s Great to be a Trojan!
Have a great school year!
