What is eLearning?
A CGCSC eLearning Day is an unplanned student learning day at home. eLearning days are often issued due to a weather cancellation, school emergency, or an event preventing students from attending school in person. Students learn from home, utilizing Canvas for both their assignments and to communicate with their teacher(s) throughout the day.
State statute now limits all Indiana K-12 schools to three (3) asynchronous eLearning days to be counted towards the 180 required school days. After three (3) asynchronous eLearning days, schools will be required to implement remote (synchronous) learning days for events preventing students from attending school in person.

Remote Learning (Synchronous)
Secondary live Zoom sessions begin at 9:00 AM.
Elementary live Zoom sessions begin at 9:30 AM.

- Remote Learning Schedules
What is Synchronous (Remote) Learning?
- Students learn live with their teacher at scheduled times.
- Instruction happens virtually through Zoom.
- Attendance is taken during live sessions.
- Assignments are completed during or shortly after live instruction.
- Students are given up to five days to complete synchronous assignments to ensure equity and flexibility during conditions beyond families’ control.
What is Canvas?
- Canvas is the Learning Management System used to deliver lessons and schoolwork to students during eLearning, and in many cases, during traditional school days.
- Students will log into Canvas by signing into Clever using their school-issued email and password (or Clever badge for grades K-2). After signing in, students will click on the Canvas icon to be redirected to Canvas.
- Access Canvas by clicking the following link: Canvas LMS.
What Should Families Expect on a Remote Learning Day?
- Students follow a set virtual schedule based on grade level.
- Teachers provide live instruction and record lessons for later access if needed.
- Teachers are available for office hours from 1:00–3:00 PM to support students.
- If a student experiences technology or power issues, flexibility is built in so learning can still be completed.
- If Center Grove needs to use a synchronous (remote) learning day beyond our three eLearning days, families will be notified in advance and provided with clear schedules and expectations.
How Will Student Attendance Be Taken?
- For a synchronous learning day, if the student attends the full live Zoom session, they are marked as present. If a student attends only part of the Zoom session, they are marked tardy. If a student does not attend the live Zoom session, they are marked absent.
- If a student is unable to participate in the live Zoom sessions due to extenuating circumstances (i.e, power outage, no internet), but still completes the synchronous learning assignments, the principal/building administrator and teacher may determine that the student should be marked as present for the missed synchronous learning session(s).
