Blessings in a Backpack

Blessings in a Backpack provides students with food to take home on Fridays, so they have something to eat over the weekend. Students are referred to the program by a school counselor.
Did you know that 4,930 children in Johnson County, Indiana, struggle with food insecurity on the weekends? These kids eat meals at school during the week but need access to affordable, healthy food on Saturday and Sunday. That's where Blessings in a Backpack can help!
The Blessings in a Backpack programs at Center Grove provides food on the weekend for children at the following schools who might otherwise go hungry:
- Center Grove Elementary
- Maple Grove Elementary
- North Grove Elementary
- Pleasant Grove Elementary
- Sugar Grove Elementary
- Walnut Grove Elementary
Center Grove's Blessings program is run by Lauren Flory, a local realtor who has children in Center Grove. She coordinates volunteers from CGHS athletic teams and clubs to fill bags each week. If your group is interested in volunteering to help, please sign up at this link.
