(Update: 5/14/20) - Our schools are working to finalize the process for families to pick up student belongings and to return any school resources students may have at home. These plans were developed in accordance with the current guidelines in place and have been approved by the Johnson County Health Department. Specific details will be shared with parents from their child's school next week. Click here for more info.

We thank you for your continued partnership and understanding as we do what we can to help stop the spread of this illness.

    • Our last day of student instruction will be on Friday, May 15th.
      • This is a change to our planned last day of May 28th. It reflects the new, reduced number of instructional days (160) announced by the Indiana Department of Education.
    • Waiver days - Monday and Tuesday (2 non-instructional days per week)
    • eLearning days - Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (3 instructional days per week)

    Student Attendance:

    • If students are engaging in Canvas with their work, they will be considered in attendance.

    Lesson Length:

    • Suggested Lesson Lengths per eLearning days:
      • Elementary
        • Core Instruction:
          • Grades K-2: plan 1 - 1½  hours per day (combined)
          • Grades 3-5: plan 1½ - 2 hours per day (combined)
        • Related Arts: 15 - 20 minutes - Students will pick one related arts subject to complete each eLearning day (art, music, or PE).  Students can do related arts subjects in any order that they wish. They should complete all three subjects by the end of the week.
      • Middle School
        • 15-20 minutes per class (7 classes per day)
      • Goal: Engage students in learning but do not overwhelm students.
      • We recognize and accept there is no substitute for what teachers provide to students in your classroom.
      • Our curriculum will need adjustment, as we are not going to be able to teach the content that we would have in a normal 180-day school year.  This impact will ripple into next year, and we will plan collaborative time to adapt 2020-21 to this unique situation.

    Due Dates

    • Teachers will establish due dates for assignments.
    • Understanding that every student and family has unique circumstances, however, teachers will work with students and families to adjust due dates if appropriate.  Families, please reach out to teachers and communicate problems and concerns.

    Grading (K-8)

    • Teachers will grade completed work and provide constructive and actionable feedback to students.
    • Quarter 4 (and Semester 2) will be Pass/Fail.
    • Semester 2 will not be calculated in a student’s cumulative GPA.
    • Exception: courses for HS credit, which will follow HS guidance below.
      • Transcripted HS courses must have letter grades, by state statute, for students to earn course credit; however, teachers will adjust to an appropriate amount of assignments and assessments.

Special Education, ENL, and S504 Accommodations

    • All student accommodations are in effect during eLearning. If your student needs assistance, please reach out to your child’s special education or ENL teacher.

    Virtual “Live” Class Meetings

    • Teachers will connect virtually with their classes in order to help students connect to their peers and your class community as a whole.
      • If students cannot participate in virtual class meetings, they will not be penalized academically.

    Student SEL Resources

    • Please visit our Helping Students Cope at Home page, as it provides healthy strategies for identifying and managing emotions during this time of change and disruption.

    eLearning Reminders

    • Encourage your students to do the best they can on their eLearning assignments, but don’t let them get too worked up over it.
    • Teachers will be available on eLearning days during office hours (9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m). A directory is available at this link.
