SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING in CENTER GROVE

What is Social Emotional Learning in Center Grove?
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, establish and maintain positive relationships, feel and show empathy for others, and make responsible decisions.

Why is Social Emotional Learning important for students?
Once a student's basic needs are met, and the student feels a sense of safety and connection, social-emotional learning can be utilized to build a foundation for emotional and behavioral regulation, thus reducing barriers for academic success. The outcome for teaching SEL and taking a whole child perspective is for students to evolve into positive and contributing members of their community.

Who will receive lessons on Social Emotional Learning?
Students in Grades 6-8 will receive instruction on regulation, connection, collaboration, and work ethic during their homeroom time.
