Cul-De-Sac Policy
Even if the cul-de-sac is longer than .2 miles one-way there must also enough room to turn the bus around safely (this means not backing back down the street). This standard is applied across the district and exceptions cannot be made for any student unless there is safety or medical issue that could override that standard. It is the parent's responsibility to ensure the safety of the child to and from the bus stop.
This standard helps the district to insure the safest bus routes possible, while still allowing for the most reasonably efficient busing system for the school district. Despite the concerns about the distance a child must walk to the bus stop, as well as issues that might prevent seeing a child at the bus stop, district standards must be applied equitably for all students.
Please remember, it is the parent's responsibility to ensure the safety of the child to and from the bus stop.
