National Merit Scholars 2009
Finalists
All four semi-finalists from Center Grove High School have met the qualifications to become National Merit Scholar Finalists. Each finalist received a Certificate of Merit, and is being considered for National Merit Scholarships to be offered in 2009. The finalists include: Brian Davault, Aaron Cox, Zachary Stallard, and Mackenzie Weeks.
The selection of about 8,200 Merit Scholarship winners from the more than 15,000 finalists is now in progress. In March, NMSC will begin sending scholarship offers to winners.
Semifinalists
Four Center Grove Seniors were named as Semifinalists in the 54th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors, McKenzie Weeks, Zachary Stallard, Aaron Cox, and Brian Davualt, have an opportunity to continue in the competition for a National Merit® Scholarship. Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. Approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.
To become a Finalist, a Semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by the high school principal, and earn SAT scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test. The Semifinalist and a high school official must submit a detailed scholarship application, which includes the student’s self-descriptive essay and information about the Semifinalist’s participation and leadership in school and community activities. National Merit Scholarship winners of 2009 will be announced beginning in April and ending in July.
