5 Years of Teaching; 1 Year at Center Grove
To me teaching is important because as an educator you have the opportunity to make a difference in the life of a student everyday. Teachers would do anything to help a child be successful. I believe that teachers are important to the future success of our children and play a vital role in their journey through life.
To me, teaching is important because educators are all on different journeys and pathways to leave a lasting impact on each student. As a life-long learner myself, I have learned that it is important to continue to grow and learn more about yourself. As I developed in my own teaching journey, I decided to invest in my education to extend my knowledge in the area of special education. I wanted to become more connected to my staff by working with colleagues outside of a specific grade level and touch more students' lives by working in multiple grade levels. I realized quickly that my love for learning extended beyond my classroom and became more personal.
To me, teaching is important because educators recognize that the path of education is individualized to meet all needs. My students are on an individual education journey and teaching is important because I am their difference maker. All students have the ability to be successful but it is my job to notice that every single student is unique, has unique learning styles, and comes to me with unique life experiences. It is my job as an educator to adapt and meet their educational needs. I am a difference maker because I provide my students with opportunities to demonstrate success in multiple ways. All students are able to learn the skills that they need to succeed in life and that looks different for every learner.
To me, teaching is important because educators invest in their students, their needs, and provide a sense of comfort. As an educator, I provide my students with time and energy to make sure all academic, behavioral, and social emotional needs are met. They will walk into my classroom knowing that they are given a fresh start, that I will listen to them and their needs, and that I can be trusted. I create a classroom environment that offers students the comfort to take risks and explore new ideas. All students in my classroom know that I will demonstrate kindness, respect, and fairness and in return they demonstrate that to me. I pride myself on building a relationship with each student that offers them opportunities to be successful both in the classroom and beyond.
To me, teaching is important because educators collaborate with colleagues for the success of students. As a colleague, I want to be present, open-minded, and willing to serve. I want my colleagues to be willing and comfortable to work alongside me for the interest of our shared students. I want to gain their trust by demonstrating my work ethic and knowledge of special education. I want to create individualized education plans with their input as the general education teacher. I believe the key to success for students with disabilities is creating a team of people who have the student’s best interest and needs in mind.
Teaching is a vital component in order for students to navigate a world that is constantly challenging them to grow and adapt. I have a passion for working and helping my students find happiness, joy, and success both in the classroom and outside of the classroom.
