Center Grove Community School Corporation partnered with CMTA in 2023 on a $17 million Guaranteed Energy Savings Project to reduce energy usage and invest in long-term sustainability. The district originally planned a small solar project for one building. After CMTA completed a no-cost assessment of every facility, the district identified additional savings and expanded the effort into a comprehensive renewable energy initiative. These savings allowed the district to fully fund solar installations, geothermal HVAC, and upgraded building controls without raising local taxes.
Center Grove's solar fields, geothermal, and other upgrades are projected to save the district more than 8.5 million kWh and nearly $830,000 each year, along with securing millions in federal energy tax credits.
These improvements are helping Center Grove create two net-zero elementary schools, Sugar Grove Elementary School and Maple Grove Elementary School. Maple Grove Elementary School is expected to become the first net-zero energy school in Indiana.
