LONG-RANGE PLANNING FOR FACILITIES
Center Grove’s Board of School Trustees approved in May 2015 a revised vision for our school corporation. It states “All students receive an exceptional educational experience”. We will provide students with that experience by focusing not just on what they’re learning and how they’re learning, but also where they’re learning.
In 2012, the Learning Environment Committee of Center Grove’s Strategic Planning Committee determined a full evaluation was needed of Center Grove facilities. That assessment, available at this link, provided recommendations for priorities related to safety, security, and accessibility issues and educational and capacity issues. From those recommendations, the district initiated on the $42 million Safety, Security, and Stewardship construction project in 2013. The project updated all schools to include secure entrances, as well as renovating Center Grove Elementary and North Grove Elementary to improve their learning environments, security, and capacity. The project also provided for major updates at Center Grove High School, including renovation of science labs, relocation of administrative offices to be near the secure entrance, renovation of the media center, updates to restrooms and classrooms, and the addition music classroom.
Since then, Center Grove has renovated the old transportation building to create a new Technology Center. This change allowed us to bring all of our Technology staff together for the first time, which improves efficiency and frees up three classrooms at Center Grove High School.
In 2016, Center Grove opened the Innovation Center, a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) lab and learning space, on the main campus (near Center Grove H.S.). This center serves as a resource for students in grades K-12. The district also constructed a Student Activity Center addition to Center Grove High School to support student athletes, dance teams, color guard, robotics, and other clubs and groups.
In November 2016, the Center Grove Board of School Trustees approved a plan to build a new elementary school to be located on Morgantown Road, south of State Road 144. Growth in the southern half of the district had filled all elementary schools to near capacity. That building opened in August for the 2019-2020 school year. In October of 2018, the Board approved a renovation of Center Grove High School. The project included replacing the current pool with a new natatorium in the south parking lot next to the Student Activity Center. The facility is to the Student Activity Center and high school. The existing pool location is being renovated into classroom and group spaces. The project also includes renovating classroom spaces that have not been updated in recent projects with updated furniture, finishes, and lighting. These projects have not impacted the tax rate for White River Township residents.
