• Semester Grade Calculation

Semester grades in a class are not calculated based on the average of the percentages for the nine weeks and the semester exam. They are calculated using a weighted average based on the letter grades for the nine weeks grading periods and the semester exam. The procedure below explains how this is done.

 Step 1Determine the point value (table below) for the first nine week, second nine weeks and the final exam.Grade GPA PtsA- 4.00A- 3.67B+ 3.33B 3.00B- 2.67C+ 2.33C 2.00C- 1.67D+ 1.33D 1.00D- 0.67F 0.00 Step 2 Based on the values determined in step 1, calculate the average grade for the semester using the formula given below. First Nine Week Grade x 2 Second Nine Week Grade x 2 Semester Exam Grade x 1 Sum of the above values/5 Example: First Nine Weeks: B-2.67 x 2 = 5.34 Second Nine Weeks: B+3.33 x 2 = 6.66Semester Exam: C2.00 x 1 = 2.005.34 + 6.66 + 2.00 = 14.0014/5 = 2.800 Step 3Use the table below to determine the letter grade equivalent based on the average grade determined in step 2.Grade GPA RangeA 4.000-3.835A- 3.834-3.495B+ 3.494-3.165B 3.164-2.835B- 2.834-2.495C+ 2.494-2.165C 2.164-1.835C- 1.834-1.495D+ 1.494-1.165D 1.164-0.835D- 0.834-0.670F 0.669-0.000Based on the example used in step 2:2.800 = B- (2.834-2.495)
