Weather Delays Closings

Every situation is considered separately. Factors such as temperature, wind chill, daylight, road conditions, visibility, and current and future weather forecasts are considered before deciding whether to delay or close school.

School officials monitor hourly temperature forecasts from a variety of weather services and stay in communication with the transportation department.

The school system will consider delaying if the wind chill temperature is between -10° and -19°  at 7 a.m., depending on other factors, including road conditions, weather forecast, etc. and whether delaying two hours will make a difference in the temperature. The decision is usually made between 5:00 a.m. and 5:15 a.m. and communicated via various methods (click here for information on the notification process).
