(Updated 7/27/20) - As we continue to navigate all of the issues associated with starting the school year, while still managing the changes brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, we thank you for your understanding and patience as we continue to revise our plans based on current guidance from the CDC, State and Johnson County Health Departments, along with the Governor’s Office, Indiana Department of Education and the IHSAA.

With that being said, our typical beginning of the school year traditions have had to be changed and/or canceled. Please see specific information on this page for Incoming Freshmen/New Students, Returning Students, Virtual Students, and All Students.

    Incoming Freshmen / New Students

Our Freshmen Orientation which was originally scheduled for July 28th and our Upper Class Registration, which was originally scheduled for July 29 and 30th have been canceled. We ask that all parents log into your Skyward Family Access account and make sure all of your contact information is accurate. It is especially important that we have accurate email addresses and phone numbers so that we may effectively communicate with you.

    CGHS Virtual Tour
Principal Jeff Henderson, Ed.D. takes incoming freshmen and new students on a tour of Center Grove High School.

    • Freshmen Orientation has been canceled.
    • We have established three days, August 5th, 6th & 7th, when freshmen and students new to CGHS can sign up to come into the building and walk through the facility to help learn their way around. Details are as follows:
      • Groups are limited to 50 students.
      • Students may only bring one additional person with them.
      • Participants must wear a mask at all times.
      • Students will have 45 minutes to walk the building (each time slot has firm start and end times).
      • Teachers will be working in classrooms to prepare for the start of the school year.
      • Students and family members may not enter classrooms or meet with teachers during their tour.
      • Students should sign up for their time slot via this Sign-up Genius link.
      • Entry to the building will be through Door #9 (Hall of Excellence)
      • For those who prefer, you may choose to watch a brief Virtual Tour of CGHS.
    • Complete the Random Drug Testing Form:
      • By July 31st, if you participate in Fall sports and/or marching band.
      • By October 30th if you would like the privilege of driving to school, parking on school grounds, or participating in any extracurricular or co-curricular activities (including prom) throughout the school year.

    Returning Students

    • In-person registration has been canceled.

    Virtual Students

    • In-person registration has been canceled.
    • You should have received an email or phone call to confirm your schedule changes.
    • Students will need to check their Skyward Schedule and log into Canvas for specific instructions for each course.

    All Students

    • If you plan to drive to school, please complete the online Parking Permit Request Form.
    • Student IDs will be required to be worn at all times.
      • Lanyards will be provided.
      • All students will start the year with last year’s photo.
      • New photos will be taken once school starts and replacement IDs will be issued.
    • We will start the school year with a Red Day.
    • All students will report to their STaR classrooms to get their schedules.
    • In order to minimize transitions, and help reduce the number of contacts a student has during the day, AIM and STaR will not be included in the regular schedule to start the school year.

The guidance from the CDC, State and Johnson County Health Departments, as well as guidance from the Governor’s Office, the Indiana Department of Education, and the IHSAA are subject to change. As a result, our plans may change throughout the year in response. We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we adapt to ensure we are providing a safe environment and the best educational experience possible to your students. We are excited to welcome our students back into the building and look forward to a successful school year!
