Center Grove is offering an online instructional delivery model, CG Virtual, for the 2020-21 school year due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
CG Virtual students will remain assigned to their home schools.
The CG Virtual format is entirely online with no in-person instruction. This instructional delivery model is separate from the eLearning model, which will be used by Traditional students, if CGCSC is required to move all students to online learning.
MIDDLE SCHOOL: GRADE 6-8
How do I access my classes
Canvas is the digital platform we will use to deliver content to you. We suggest looking at your schedule in Skyward to see your most up to date schedule of courses.
- To access your Canvas courses click here. You will use your Center Grove username and password to access course(s) in Canvas.
- Please note that we highly recommend using the web-based version of Canvas, not the app. The Canvas app frequently has trouble accessing content.
- If you have never used a Center Grove username and password, please email AccountHelp@centergrove.k12.in.us. They will be able to assist you.
CG Virtual students are expected to log in to Canvas on each instructional day as defined by the district academic calendar. A simple attendance task will be embedded in the Homeroom course. Logging in and completing the attendance task is the equivalent of walking into a classroom.
Daily Academic Engagement
GRADE 6 Students in grade 6 are expected to engage in at least 5 hours of course work each day.
GRADE 7 & 8: Students in grades 7 & 8 are expected to engage in at least 6 hours of course work each day.
This does not mean students must be logged in to Canvas for 5/6 hours each day. Coursework will provide students with both online and offline learning activities.
We highly recommend that students work with their parent(s) to develop a schedule to help them stay on track as they work through the coursework. For a sample daily student schedule click here. On each instructional day, students should plan to log in to Canvas, open each course, and work through the assigned work for the course. Students should make a habit of checking their email and the Inbox in Canvas to stay on top of announcements and messages from their instructors.
While you are completing your coursework at home, you are still considered a student at your Center Grove school (MSC or MSN) student. The student handbook policies and procedures apply to virtual students as well as traditional students.
Teachers have several ways in which they may communicate with students. The most common way is through your Canvas Inbox and Center Grove email. Please make sure that you are checking your Canvas Inbox and CG Student Email each day. We also highly encourage parents to become Canvas observers. You can use the 2020-2021 Canvas Parent Observation Instructions. This will allow you to see announcements, due dates, and observe Canvas course content.
Global Campus teachers may offer virtual opportunities, such as Zoom meetings to interact with their students. These opportunities aren’t mandatory and will occur at the discretion of the Global Campus virtual teacher. If the course content is delivered during a Zoom meeting, the content will be posted to Canvas for students to view at a later time.
Special Services Students
We want to make sure we are meeting the needs of all CG Virtual students. In addition to course instructors, there are several staff members who work to support student needs. If your student qualifies for special services and you need support, please contact the following individuals:
- Teri Blau, MSC Special Education Teacher
- Yvonne Sturm, MSN Special Education Teacher
- Allison Dixon, English Language Learner Teacher
- S504 issues or questions, please contact your student’s school counselor
School Supply List
Click here to view a school supply list. Parents should not feel a need to purchase all of the items at once. We highly recommend that students work with their parent(s) to develop an organizational system for their materials to help them stay on track as they work through the coursework.
CG Virtual students are members of their home school. Parents of CG Virtual students will receive information directly from their home school about school pictures and yearbooks.
Textbook Rental Fees
Textbook fees are posted in Skyward.
CGCSC is excited to provide meal pick-up for our CG Virtual students. The USDA has extended its Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) as part of COVID-19 relief through the end of the 2020-21 school year. This means all students in Center Grove can receive reimbursable meals for breakfast and/or lunch at no cost through May or until USDA funding is depleted. We want to make these meals available to Virtual students as well.
HOW IT WILL WORK
