SHANNON THAYERPleasant Grove Elementary School2013-14 Teacher of the YearSubject and Grade Level: Art (K-5)Years of Experience: 13Teaching is important to me because: Teaching is extremely important. We are truly forming the people of tomorrow in our classrooms today. As a teacher, I have the power to shape the perception that my students have of themselves. I want for students to cherish themselves as a valuable individual and be accepting of others differing opinions. I encourage critical and creative thinking. I will instill in students that many problems have more than one solution. I give opportunities for teamwork and problem solving which are essential to success in the classroom and someday in the work place. I teach students to be educated observers of the world and hopefully positive contributing citizens in society.
