Three CGHS teachers awarded Lilly Creativity grants

(January 14, 2019) - The Lilly Endowment awarded $12,000 grants to Center Grove High School teachers Cindy Cullom, Karen Gerhart, and Kraig Kitts. They were chosen from a pool of 500 educators from around the state.
The Teacher Creativity Fellowship Program provides educators with financial support and encouragement to renew their commitment to the education profession.
Cindy Cullom, a CGHS social studies teacher, plans to use her grant for a project titled "In My Brother's Footsteps." She plans to follow her brother's journey from basic training to his deployment and death in Vietnam. She will then create a book about Vietnam during the war and present day.
Karen Gerhart, a CGHS English teacher, plans to use her grant for a project titled "Eat Your Heart Out: Cooking and 'Booking' My Way through the World's Great Love Stories." She plans to study love stories in England, France, Italy and Germany and learn the art of cooking in each locale.
Kraig Kitts, a CGHS science teacher, plans to use his grant for a project titled "Building Bridges and Climbing Mountains." He plans to work with science teachers in Tanzania, provide subject area lessons to teachers, and summit Mt. Kilimanjaro.
The Teacher Creativity Fellowship Program awards 100 grants each year to support educators' summer projects of personally and professionally fulfilling activities. Since the program began in 1987, more than 2,900 Indiana educators have received grants.
