Center Grove Police Department Receives National Award for Excellence

(June 25, 2019) The Center Grove Community School Corporation Police Department received the Model SRO (School Resource Officer) Agency Award from the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO).

Departments receive the Model SRO Agency Award for exemplifying in training, policies, and standards the NASRO triad concept, which describes an SRO’s role as mentor, guest lecturer and law enforcement officer. Model agencies also demonstrate creative and innovative approaches to school-based policing.

The Center Grove Police Department was one of three agencies nationwide to receive the award. Other recipients were Noblesville Police Dept., Noblesville, Indiana, and McKinney Police Dept., McKinney, Texas.

“This award is a testament to the dedication of our officers and the exceptional leadership of Chief Ray Jackson,” said Dr. Bill Long, CGCSC Assistant Superintendent. “Chief Jackson and I work to ensure our officers are fully trained on all aspects of school safety. We appreciate the support of our School Board in recognizing the value of police department as they protect and mentor our students.”

NASRO presented the awards on Monday, June 24, 2019 during a ceremony as part of its annual National School Safety Conference. Nearly 2,100 police officers, educators, and others are attending the conference this week in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee to receive specialized training and information.
