(May 3, 2021) - Center Grove High School Engineering & Technology Department chair, Brent Schulz, was named 2021 Teacher of the Year by the Air Force Association.

This honor recognizes STEM (science/technology/engineering/mathematics) educators for their outstanding classroom performance, collaborative initiatives, educational outreach, leadership, and significant impact in the school and community. The program, sponsored by Rolls-Royce, honors the commitment and achievements of these extraordinary teachers.

Schulz has taught for 18 years in the Greenwood area and is a Project Lead the Way teacher,
sponsor of Center Grove’s Remote Control Flying Club, and men’s volleyball coach. He is a multiple Legacy Award recipient and a member of the Civil Air Patrol.

“I have been interested in aerospace for over 35 years,” said Schulz. “I remember my father having a radio-controlled aircraft hanging in the basement. I would stare at this aircraft for hours envisioning how the aircraft's control surfaces work to cause the plane to move in the air. Fast forward a few years, and I had the opportunity to build one of my dad’s radio-controlled aircraft kits. This has driven my interest to build, fly, and spread the love of aerospace for others to enjoy.”

Schulz was nominated for state recognition by the Air Force Association’s Central Indiana Roscoe Turner Chapter 150 after being awarded its chapter Teacher of the Year award.
