(October 23, 2022) - CGHS students Izzy Felke, senior, and Kristiana Golojuch, junior were awarded the National Statesman's Award from SkillsUSA during the organization's conference in September in Washington, DC. The award is the highest honor a SkillsUSA member can earn. To be eligible students must demonstrate SkillsUSA knowledge, civic awareness, and leadership skills.

During the conference, the students met with Indiana Senators Mike Braun and Todd Young, and Indiana Congressmen Trey Hollingsworth and Jim Baird. They discussed career and technical education (CTE) programs, the skills gap, and federal funding for high school programming through the Perkins Act. Izzy serves as president of SkillsUSA Indiana.

"We worked on communication and leadership skills during our sessions with SkillsUSA and got to meet some amazing people while exploring the history in D.C.," said Felke. "All four members of Indiana's delegation said what we are working towards is amazing. Many of them have already marked their calendars for Indiana’s State SkillsUSA conference."

SkillsUSA is one of the nation’s largest individual membership organizations for career and technical students.
