CGHS to graduate students in the Class of 2023
(May 31, 2023) – Center Grove High School (CGHS) plans to graduate 657 students on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the high school’s Vandermeer Gymnasium. The ceremony will be webcast on CGCSC’S YouTube channel at youtube.com/centergroveschools.
The Class of 2023 will have co-valedictorians. Cody Hewitt and Joseph Sowers each ended their high school careers with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.818. Cody will attend Purdue University to study aerospace or mechanical engineering. Joseph also plans to attend Purdue University where he will study engineering. The salutatorian for the Class of 2023 is Grant Embrey who finished with a GPA of 4.814. Grant plans to attend Purdue University to study aerospace engineering.
CGHS has several graduates who plan to serve in the military following graduation. Two will attend ROTC for the Marines and Army National Guard. Seven other students have enlisted in the Air National Guard, U.S. Air Force, and Army.
“We are excited to celebrate the accomplishments of the class of 2023 with families and friends,” said Dr. Jeff Henderson, CGHS principal. “This class is filled with brilliant minds, compassionate hearts, and tireless workers. We are excited to see how their futures unfold as they enter this next phase of their lives. We appreciate everything they have accomplished, both individually and collectively over their last four years at Center Grove High School and wish them great success and happiness in their futures.”
Among the graduates, 244 seniors will receive Core 40 with Academic Honors diplomas, 12 will receive a Core 40 with Technical Honors diploma, and 35 seniors will receive both. To qualify for Academic Honors, students must meet additional requirements beyond the state mandates for a Core 40 diploma, earn a total of at least 47 credits that are recommended to include additional math, world language, and fine arts credits, earn a GPA of B or better, and meet certain AP, dual credit, or SAT/ACT requirements. Technical Honors recipients must also meet state mandates for a Core 40 diploma, earn a total of at least 47 credits that are recommended to include additional math credits, earn a GPA of B or better, and complete either dual credits in a technical area or additional career-readiness criteria.
Sixty-two EC seniors will receive an associate degree in General Studies from Vincennes University, along with their high school diploma. Forty-one of those seniors have earned college honors. Fifty-two students will receive a 30-hour Indiana College Core certificate, which means they have met all requirements for general education courses at all state universities in Indiana.
