(July 23, 2023) - Center Grove High School graduate Grant Sawa received the Johnny Bench award on Wednesday, July 18, at the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati. Sawa was recognized by the Pro Baseball Hall of Fame Catcher as the top Indiana high school catcher for the 2023 season. He and nine other honorees were recognized before the Giants-Reds game.

The awards honor the best baseball and softball high school catchers from Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and West Virginia as well as the top baseball and softball NCAA Division I catchers. Finalists are chosen by a committee with the winners being hand-picked by Bench himself, the Hall of Fame catcher for the Cincinnati Reds.
