CGHS Celebrates Veterans Day
(November 12, 2018) - Center Grove High School welcomed veterans who are family members of students and staff to an assembly and luncheon on Friday, November 9, 2018.
Two CGHS alumni, US Marine Corps Second Lieutenant Sean Dixon and US Marine Corps First Lieutenant Logan Deffner, spoke to the crowd about their service and what Veterans Day means to them. Lieutenant Dixon shared with students the importance of servant leadership no matter who you are whether it be to younger siblings, underclassmen, or within the US Marine Corps.
“Veterans Day to me is designed to praise those that served and I ask you to make an effort to serve someone else.” Dixon said.
Lieutenant Deffner emphasized the significance of having community support for our local Veterans. He told students about one Veterans Day when he was on active duty in Afghanistan. He said the Center Grove Community helped provide the care he needed while overseas.
“When I think of Veterans Day and my experiences in Afghanistan, I remember the care packages I received from you," Deffner shared. "I’m really proud of the Center Grove Community for supporting our Veterans and I hope that we can continue to do so.”
Following the program, veterans and their families were treated to lunch in the CGHS Hall of Excellence.
